12g under-lever Hammer Gun by H. Beckwith - 30 x 2 1/2" Damascus barrels
This pinfire shotgun was built circa 1855/60 by Henry Beckwith. The address on the top rib is 58 Skinner Street, Snowhill, London. The gun retains its original barrel brown. There are no chips or cracks to the woodwork, which still has its original lacquer and is a 14 3/8″ straight-hand stock fitted with an ornate skeleton butt-plate. The gun has been built to an incredibly high standard and is fitted with a grip safety. The 30 x 2 1/2″ barrels still measure the same as the day they were proofed with 33 thou minimum walls. Pinfires are not rare, but the high quality ones tended to be converted to centre fire. This one has most certainly managed to survive unscathed. It’s just fabulous.
