12g assisted opening, sidelock ejector by J Purdey & Sons - 30" x 2 1/2" barrels
This assisted opening Purdey was built circa 1895. Sleeved barrels, with welded seams, measure 30″ x 2 1/2″, this work was carried out by Bill Blacker. Around the same time, the pistol grip stock and fore-end were replaced by Tony White. Engraving style on the action and locks is Purdey’s fine rose and scroll, and the gun has disc set strikers. This is a super big gun, presented in an oak and leather case with named accessories, including a striker pot, nipple key, and a one-piece cleaning rod. Owned by the same prominent Scottish family for over 60 years, I have seen this gun in action, used to devastating effect. With the chokes reduced, this gun will fire standard steel cartridges.
