12g bar-in-wood hammer gun by J Purdey - 30" x 2 1/2" Teague-lined barrels
This beautiful bar-in-wood hammer gun was built circa 1877, is marked No 1 of a pair, and has a bolted fore-end. Teague-lined, damascus barrels measure 30″ x 2 1/2″ and the top rib reads “J Purdey, 314 1/2 Oxford Street, London”. Engraving on the action and locks is Purdey’s fine rose and scroll, and the gun is fitted with dolphin head hammers and will open and close with the right hammer cocked. The well-figured 14 3/8″ stock has had a leather cheek pad removed at some point and, quite unusually, there are no cracks in the bridge of the stock. A small amount of original hardening colour remains on the gun and it opens and closes beautifully. This is a super thing which will make an excellent shooter.
