SOLD - 12g round action by John Dickson & Son - 29" x 2 1/2" Damascus barrels
SOLD – This beautiful Damascus Dickson was delivered on 1st August 1889. Damascus barrels measure 29″ x 2 1/2″ and were re-proved in London less than a year ago and hasn’t been shot since. Jack Sumner engraved the action, with incredibly fine scroll work, which is sharp and still retains a small amount of hardening colour. A full restoration has been carried out on the 14 3/8″ beautifully figured stock, and the gun has had the following work done. A new cross-pin has been fitted, the gun has been fully re-jointed, prepared for proof (passed), and the woodwork has been re-chequered and oil finished. The action and mechanism has been fully overhauled with furniture blacked and safety button re-chequered and blued. As the barrels retain a large amount of their original barrel brown, they haven’t been polished and re-browned as I decided to leave them as they were. This is one of the best action filing jobs I have seen and for a 136 year-old gun, it’s in remarkable condition. At just over 6lbs in weight, it’s a stunning gun.
