12g round action by John Dickson & Son with 29" x 2 1/2" damascus barrels & extra steel barrels
This damascus Dickson round action was built in 1894 and is in truly remarkable condition. The 29″ damascus barrels have 2 1/2″ chambers, are clean and bright in the bore with excellent wall thicknesses. With the introduction of non-toxic cartridges, the current owner has had the makers build an extra pair of 29″ steel barrels with 2 3/4″ chambers. Although not proved for steel, the gun will fire standard steel cartridges with a slight modification to the choking when the time comes. He’s also had a beautiful new case made by Traditional English Gun Cases to accommodate the extra barrels. The action and lock are engraved with pretty much the finest scroll engraving I’ve seen to date; the gun was engraved by Jack Sumner. It has a 14 7/8″ straight hand stock with a Silver’s pad. There’s a bloom of hardening colour left on the gun, with its cocking indicators, it is one of the most magnificent vintage round actions I’ve seen; what a beauty.
