12g sidelock ejector, by John Rigby & Co - 30" x 2 1/2" barrels
This beautiful Rigby sidelock was built circa 1895, and is one of Rigby’s famous Rising Bite guns. Barrel dimensions are 30″ x 2 1/2″ chopperlump Whitworth Steel, and the action and locks are beautifully engraved with fine Acanthus scroll. Fluted fences are filed into the balls of the action, which are engraved with a fern motif. Locks are the typical dipped Rigby style, and the action is fitted with disc set strikers, an auto top safe and a lever fore-end catch engraved with Rigby’s patent. There is a nut on the fore-end iron which can be backed off to turn the ejector system off. The 14 3/4″ stock is beautifully matched including a 1″ well paired extension piece. Retaining a small amount of original hardening colour, this gun is presented in its maker case, with trade label.
