SOLD - 12g Sidelock Ejector by John Wilkes 28 x 2 3/4" barrels
This Wilkes gun was completed in the late 1980’s and is in truly spectacular condition, retaining the majority of all its original finish. It has 28″ x 2 3/4″ chopper lump barrels which are choked 1/4 & 1/2. The action and locks are engraved with bold acanthus, with gold gamebirds inlaid, there is a partridge on the right lock, a rising pheasant on the left, a labradors head on the underside of the action and rabbit on the bow of the trigger guard. Although this is a tenuous link, I’ve been told by the owner of the gun the labradors head was engraved from a photograph of Harry Kell’s labrador. There is most certainly a Kell flavour to the engraving. The name “John Wilkes” is inlaid in gold in both lock plates in a gothic style. The gun is fitted with a single selective trigger and has a beautifully figured 14 5/8″ Prince of Wales stock. The gun comes in its oak and leather motor case with outer cover, trade label, accessories, etc. The gun really is quite magnificent.
