12g sidelock ejector by John Dickson & Son - 28 x 2 1/2" barrels
This is the first Dickson sidelock I have seen like this. It is very obviously a best grade gun although not in the style of their usual London pattern sidelock. Having just overhauled the gun, my gut feeling is that this was a gun inherited by Dicksons in the late 30s during the incorporation of Mortimer into the business. The safety system is very similar to that found on a Mortimer/Harkom. The gun also has a small delicate top lever which again echoes the Harkom sidelock. On the 28″ x 2 1/2″ chopperlump barrels, I can just make out the remnants of the stamp ‘fine steel’ on the barrel tubes which was common on Mortimer and Harkom guns. The gun has rebounding Chilton locks and a 15 3/4″ stock which includes a leather covered recoil pad. The action and locks retain 50-60% of their original hardening colour and are engraved with fine rose and scroll. This gun has had the ribs lifted and re-laid, barrels polished and blacked, a full mechanical overhaul with the furniture polished and blacked. All ready for the coming season.
