16g OU by French barrel maker Jean Breuil 27" x 2 3/4" barrels
I don’t really know where to start with this one, it’s probably the most ornate gun I have ever had. Firstly the woodwork, it has a three-piece fore-end which is carved with foliage. The 14″ pistol grip of the stock is a carved wild boar’s head, around the lock plates and heel is carved with foliage and floral detail and the butt end is a pierced skeleton heel plate. Engraving on the action and lock plates is a fruiting grape vine, foxes, running dogs chasing wild boar, woodcock, squirrels, red stags and hinds, hares and a capercaillie. There’s even a bird feeding its young and incidentally that’s what the fox is looking up at and on the bow of the guard is a French hunting horn. The 27″ barrels are choked 5/8 and 1/2 and have incredibly fine gold inlay at the breech end and a tapering engine-turned top rib. A caddisfly forms the shape of the manual top safety button, the gun has a double trigger ejector system and the top lever is pierced. It’s truly remarkable! The more you look at this gun, the more you see in it, it’s got to have £50,000 worth of engraving on it. I’ve never seen anything like it.
