20g top lever hammergun by James Purdey & Sons - 30" x 2 3/4" sleeved barrels
This is a beautiful little 20g top lever hammergun by this very famous London maker. Built circa 1885, the gun has sleeved barrels measuring 30″ x 2 3/4″ and an Anson push-rod fore-end. Engraving style on the back action locks, hammers and action body is fine scroll and the locks are signed “J Purdey & Sons”. The woodwork has been re-chequered, oil finished and extended, in wood, to 14 5/8″ to centre, having clearly been previously cut down for a young shooter. Amazingly, with 30″ barrels, this gun is beautifully balanced and weighs only 5lbs 5oz. A rare little gun.
