Pair of 12g round action shotguns by John Dickson & Son - 28" x 2 3/4" barrels
Ihis pair of 12g round actions by John Dickson & Son has 28″ x 2 3/4″ chopperlump barrels, and was built at the turn of the last century. Having been in the same family since new, originally owned by a Lieutenant Colonel, the guns are very well travelled as you will see from the pictures, showing labels for Cairo and Bombay. The number 1 gun has new chopperlump barrels fitted by the makers, with the number 2 gun having its original Damascus barrels sleeved. Both guns are 2 3/4″ and will be capable of firing standard steel, and despite one pair of barrels being sleeved, there is only an ounce of difference in weight between them. Straight-hand 14 1/2″ stocks are very well matched, original and beautifully figured. Inlaid into the fore-end woods is a silver 1 & 2 and this is also engraved on the breech end of the barrels and on the top levers. Engraving style is Dickson’s bold acanthus with “John Dickson & Son Patent” engraved in a scrolling banner on the side of the action and chequering on the front trigger blades. A full mechanical overhaul has been carried out, making these guns a reliable pair for someone. Despite the barrel alterations, the guns are pretty much as they left Dickson’s workshop and they are presented in their original leather case with trade label.
