Pair of 12g round actions by James MacNaughton 30 x 2 1/2" barrels
This fine pair of MacNaughton round actions was delivered in August 1897 to an eminent Scottish naturalist and adventurer by the name of John Alexander Harvie-Brown. Both guns were quite badly water damaged however there has been a fortune spent on them. They have new mains, ejector and safe springs, they have been re-jointed and re-proved and have had just an overall gentle sympathetic restoration. I’ve seen many MacNaughton round actions, but this is the first 30” pair I’ve seen which may render them unique as MacNaughton tended to favour 28” barrels. The best thing for me in today’s world is that they will fire standard steel cartridges with the left choke reduced; which I will happily do in with the cost of the guns if required. The bores are spotless and there is nothing less than 28 thou in the walls. These guns have their original 13 7/8″ stocks and are presented in an oak and leather case with accessories and trade label. A fabulous opportunity for somebody to own a pair of Edinburgh built round actions for less than £10,000.
