SOLD - Pair of 12g round actions by John Dickson & Son - 29" x 2 1/2" barrels
This magnificent pair of round actions was built in 1889 and they are totally original. Engraving on the action and lock plates is, I think, the finest scroll work I have seen to date, and the action bodies are beautifully filed and fitted with gold cocking indicators.
The 29″x 2 1/2″ Damascus barrels were nitro-proved in London in 1993 and remain in astonishingly good condition. Numbers 1 & 2 are engraved on the top ribs, the top levers, the tangs of the trigger guard and inlaid in silver on the fore-end woods. A touch of colour hardening remains on the guns, and the metal work has never been polished. Other than the woodwork having had light restoration and the barrels being polished and re-browned after re-proving, these guns are about as original as you will find. Barrels have excellent wall thicknesses, stocks their original length and each gun still weighs 6lbs 5oz. Donald Dallas featured this pair of guns on pages, 134 and 135 of his book. Finding guns of this vintage, in this condition, is incredibly rare.
