The glorious 12th and the grouse are here! It is my favourite time of the year But those who manage our precious land Are in danger, so we shooters must take a stand Those who decide, those with the power Sit up on high, in their ivory tower Decree that shooting is bad and should no longer take place So those land workers have a difficult future to face We shooters, alike, nothing but a dying breed Resigned to the scrap heap unless we take heed And fight for our right to enjoy our rich land Where diversity flourishes, only due to our hand Breeding cows just for killing, oh yes, that hits the spot But shooting wild birds and game, oh no, definitely not Let's stop managing the land, no longer required And then, goodness me, all the grouse have expired! Without managing land so the birds can survive There will be no more grouse left alive Climate change and rules brought in from on high Mean our native birds no longer will fly Guns have a reputation for death and destruction But only by those who have little instruction What about gambling, drugs, cars and even knives They are all potential killers and take thousands of lives But most of us need these or use them every day So the government is unlikely to take them away So shooters we need to stand up and shout out Before Grouse is a bird we can only read about!

The Round Action Gunmaker written by Donald Dallas.
Published as a private publication for Donald Dallas by Quiller Publishing 2014. 12″ x 10″, hardback, 352 pages, 447 photographs.
This stunning book gives for the first time a detailed history of John Dickson & Son from 1794 to the present day. Established in 1838 at 60 Princes Street, Edinburgh, the firm quickly gained a reputation for building very high quality guns and rifles, their two-groove percussion rifles achieving international acclaim. John Dickson (3) made the greatest contribution to the firm by patenting the round action gun in 1880 that instantly achieved critical acclaim as a best gun utilising a trigger plate action. The beautiful and elegant three-barrelled gun followed in 1882 and by the time the ejector had been patented in 1887 the Dickson round action had been perfected. In 1923 John Dickson (3) retired and the business was sold. In 1928 the firm moved to 32 Hanover Street and in 1937 to 21 Frederick Street, the present day location of the firm.
This book goes into great detail on all the types of Dickson guns and rifles built and was written with the full permission of John Dickson & Son.
