12g round action by John Dickson & Son - 30" x 2 3/4" damascus barrels
Now here is a rare one! This Dickson round action is patent use no 60, was built in 1884 and has 30″ x 2 3/4″ Damascus barrels which were re-proved in 1972. Barrel wall thicknesses are excellent being 31 and 26 thou and the barrels are choked improved cylinder and 5/8. The top narrow, sunken rib has the same dimensions as the bottom rib, and it reads “John Dickson & Son, Princes Street, Edinburgh”. Engraving style on the action and locks is fine scroll, and there is a detachable port within the top strap which holds the gold cocking indicators, and the action face has gas checks. There is no bridge in the action, so the lock plate runs the entire length to the start of the knuckle. The highly-figured stock measures 14 1/2″, including a 1/2″ buffalo horn extension piece, with 1/4 cast off, bend measurements of 1 9/16 and 2 3/16, and it is ornately chequered with Dickson’s early chequering pattern. This is a scarce gun, presented in an oak and leather case with Dickson’s leather trade label. Guns like this, in their original condition are becoming exceptionally scarce.
