12g boxlock ejector by William Powell & Son - 28" x 2 1/4" barrels
This is one of Powell’s patent action boxlocks built in 1891. Marked as No 1 of a pair, the gun has a lift-up top lever, and the address on the top rib reads “William Powell & Son, 13 Carrs Lane, Birmingham”. Engraving style on the action, cover plate, guard etc. is fine scroll, and the gun has an Anson fore-end, Deeley-style ejector system and is fitted with a rocker safe. The 28″ x 2 1/4″ Damascus barrels have a dolls’ head extension and are beautifully browned with a rich chestnut coloured finish. Unusual, quite quirky but beautifully made.
