12g hammergun by J & W Tolley - 29 3/4" x 2 3/4" Damascus barrels
This is a beautiful hammergun. It has 29 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ Damascus barrels which were re-proved in London in 2009 to 2 3/4″, and the top rib reads ” J & W Tolley, makers, St Mary’s Square, Birmingham”. Fully engraved with fine rose and scroll, the right-hand lock plate features a running hare, a rising duck appears on the underside of the action, and on the left hand lock is pair of blackcock. The action has beautifully filed percussion fences, and the hammers are engraved with fine scroll. Some colour hardening remains on the action and locks and the Jones’ under lever opening system, locks up wonderfully. The fore-end is bolted, the trigger guard forms a pistol grip, and the straight-hand stock is 15″ to centre, including about 1″ of buffalo horn. Presented in a brass-bound, leather case with a J & W Tolley trade label. What a lovely thing.
