Pair of 16g A&D ejectors by Mortimer & Son, Edinburgh - 28" x 2 1/2" barrels
I suspect these guns were built around 1925. They have 28″ x 2 1/2″ chopperlump barrels, the top rib reading, “Mortimer & Son (incorporating Joseph Harkom & Son) 86 George Street, Edinburgh”. Engraving on the actions of both guns is fine scroll and game scene. No 1 gun has black cock engraved on the right-hand side, and on the left it has red grouse with grouse engraved on the bow of the trigger guard. The name “Mortimer & Son, Edinburgh” is engraved on the cover plate of both guns. No 2 gun is engraved with pheasants on the right-hand side and pheasants in flight on the left, with roosting pheasants on the bow of the guard. Both stocks measure 15″ to centre including wooden extension pieces along with panels and drop points. The guns have Anson fore-ends, Southgate ejectors, spindle lever systems and rocker safes. The build quality of these guns is quite astonishing – how many box locks have you seen with chopperlump barrels? They are offered in a beautiful Dickson double gun case and would make somebody a good reliable pair of guns. They have been fully restored including having the ribs lifted and re-laid, barrels polished and blacked, woodwork re-chequered and oil finished, furniture polished and blacked and safety buttons re-chequered and re-blued. Both gun have had a full mechanical overhaul. This is a truly magnificent set of guns, each weighing in at only 5lbs 12oz.
