Pair of 12g sidelock ejectors by John Rigby & Co - 30" x 2 1/2" barrels
This magnificent pair of Rigby shotguns was built circa 1903, incorporating the Bissell patent “rising bite”. Barrels measure 30″, with 2 1/2″ chambers and both guns have chokes measuring approximately 1/4 and 1/2. Engraving style on the broad top ribs is gothic script and reads, “John Rigby & Co, 72 St James’s Street, London”. Engraving style on the actions is fine scroll, with stylised foliage around the balls of the actions. The locks are Rigby’s distinctive dipped shape, and the name “John Rigby & Co” is engraved in a bold gothic signature on both lock plates. Gold numbers 1 and 2 appear on the top levers, barrel breech ends, and fore-end irons, which incorporate Rigby’s patented lever fore-end catches. Stocks measure 15″ and are full cross-over from right shoulder to left eye. A fabulous pair of guns presented in their oak and leather case with trade label. This is gun making at its absolute finest.
