SOLD - 12g round action by John Dickson & Son - 29" x 2 1/2" Damascus barrels
SOLD – This Dickson was completed on June 19th, 1894, and I have just finished completely restoring it. Work done includes, re-engraving the barrels, polishing and re-browning them, fully overhauling the action and mechanism, polishing and blacking the furniture and blueing and re-chequering the safety button. The woodwork has been re-chequered and oil finished. This gun came in looking a bit worse for wear, but with the correct care and attention, I am always amazed just how much these guns come back to life. Damascus barrels measure are 29″ x 2 1/2″ with chokes of 1/4 and 5/8 and they were re-proved in 1962. Bore conditions are excellent with only a couple of small shadows from historic dent repairs. Jack Sumner engraved the action with his trademark fine scroll which remains in fabulous condition, with a hint of colour hardening. A small amount of rust damage is present within the engraving, but being there, you really don’t notice it. Although the gun is marked No 1 of a pair, interesting it was built as a single gun. Stock length is 14 5/8″ to centre, the gun weighs 6lbs 3oz, and all the screw heads are original and in fabulous condition. Damascus barrelled round actions are becoming quite scarce, particularly in this condition.
