12g round action by John Dickson & Son - barrels
This beautiful round action was built circa 1908 and is engraved with Dickson’s medium scroll. However, if you open the picture up and study the engraving, you will see there are small roses within the acanthus scroll work. I’ve seen this before and they all tend to be around this vintage. Original 29″ x 2 1/2″ chopperlump barrels were re-proved in London in 1981. The gun is marked No 3 of a Trio, but interestingly, there are half a dozen guns missing from Dickson’s records and the gun does not appear to be recorded. I suspect this is down to human error. The stock length is 14 7/8″ with no escutcheon plate, but a gold No 3 is inlaid in the comb of the stock. It opens and closes beautifully and the bores are clean and bright. The right tube is a tad below 20 thou and the right is 21. I think this gun will make a fabulous reliable gun for somebody, and it only weighs 6lbs 4oz.
