12g sidelock ejector by Boss & Co - 27" x 2 3/4" barrels
This beautiful Boss is No 2 of a pair and was built circa 1910. Replacement barrels measure 27” x 2 3/4”. Engraving style on the action and locks is Boss’ best rose and scroll, and is very obviously the work of Jack Sumner. The underside of the action reads “Boss & Co patent”, referring to Boss’ single trigger turret system, which works very positively. The highly-figured, replacement stock measures 14 5/8″ which matches the replacement fore-end wood. Cast off measurement for the gun is 1/8″, with bend measurements of 1 9/16″ and 2 5/16″. I’ve known this gun for a number of years and it’s been very well looked after. Recently it has undergone an overhaul, which included the fitting of a new cross-pin and barrels fully re-jointed. This gun is capable of firing standard steel cartridges without alteration.
