12g A&D ejector by John Dickson & Son - 29" x 2 3/4" barrels
I have never seen a perfect gun, but quite honestly this is knocking on the door of that. Built in 1920, this Dickson boxlock was sold in auction about 5 years ago with a hammer price of about £5,000. Re-proved in 2024 to 2 3/4″, the 29″ steel barrels have perfect bores with both walls measuring north of 30 thou. Engraving style on the action is fine scroll with a large pierced banner reading ‘John Dickson & Son’ on both sides. Retaining pretty much all of its original hardening colour, the gun is fitted with a rocker safe, a full spindle lever system, a third locking grip to the barrels and Southgate ejectors. Retaining all of its original chequering, the woodwork has never been restored and has the typical Dickson panels without teardrops. The 14 7/8″ beautifully figured but understated stock, classic of Dicksons, is fitted with a Silver’s pad and a bolstered fore-end wood. Opening and closing like new, with a slight alteration to the chokes this gun will be capable of firing standard steel cartridges. Presented in its oak and leather case, Dickson trade label and a few named accessories, I hope my description of this gun goes some way to conveying how special it is.
